Napoli’s search for a new defender is increasingly complicated, with both Rennes and the Partenopei ready to activate Kim Min-jae’s Fenerbahce release clause and asking after PSG’s Abdou Diallo.

Kalidou Koulibaly had his Chelsea medical this morning and will fly out to the Unites States tomorrow morning to join his new teammates after the €40m transfer.

His replacement was chosen as Kim Min-jae, even named in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli by coach Luciano Spalletti, who called him a “Champions League level player” suited to the club.

However, reports in France and Turkey suggest both Rennes and Napoli are prepared to pay the €20m release clause, so it is up to the player to choose.

The story coming out of France via Ignazio Genuardi is that Kim has already chosen Rennes, ready to sign a contract worth €2.5m per season plus bonuses.

Sportitalia also note that Rennes got there first and agreed terms with the player’s agent.

Meanwhile, Loic Tanzi of RMC Sport claims that Napoli have also contacted Paris Saint-Germain to ask after defender Diallo.

However, they only want to sell and are not prepared to make it a loan with option to buy.

Sky Sport Italia maintain Diallo could be signed for €20-25m, but the issue could be his wage demands.

The other candidates on the list included Lazio veteran Francesco Acerbi and Manchester United flop Eric Bailly.
