Edy Reja could not hide his bitterness after Lazio conceded a stoppage-time equaliser against Lecce.

“We put in an extraordinary performance in the circumstances and did not reap what we sowed because we lacked sharpness and maturity in the final stages,” he said of the 1-1 draw.

“We were unable to keep hold of the ball and showed a surprising lack of experience. The goal came from our distraction and this makes us bitter after a performance in which we gave 100 per cent.

“This was a crucial match for us and with three points we would’ve created a solid advantage for the Champions League spot.

“There are a few injury problems and Hernanes and Matuzalem picked up knocks today. It’s a particularly unlucky year with regards to injuries and it’ll be tough when playing every three days over the next month.”

Lazio are still in third place, but face pressure from Udinese” data-scaytid=”35″>Udinese, Roma, Napoli and Inter.

“All of them have the chance to qualify and the side that ends the season on a high will be able to overcome the others,” continued Reja.

“Napoli have the strongest squad and perhaps also the easiest run-in, even if they face Lecce next week.

“I still believe Lazio can take third place and am confident despite the disappointment of today’s result.”
