Andrea Ranocchia feels Inter beating Milan in the Derby della Madonnina was “a response to the fans, everyone around us, but also ourselves.”

The Nerazzurri hadn’t done the double over their city rivals in Serie A since 2011-12, but achieved that feat this season.

“We are very happy to have overtaken Milan in the table and broken away from Roma,” Ranocchia told news agency ANSA.

“Besides, winning a derby is always good, but winning two is better.”

Inter had been the underdogs going into Sunday’s showdown, but emerged 3-2 victors.

“We got ourselves out of a complicated situation, even though there is still a long road ahead of us. It was important for the Inter players to give a response to the fans, everyone around us, but also to ourselves.

“Winning this derby is one of those boosts that we really needed right now.”
