Andrea Ranocchia says there is still 'a long way to go' for Inter to absorb Frank De Boer's concepts, whilst remembering Roberto Mancini.

The defender just returned from his loan to Sampdoria. While it's uncertain whether he'll remain with the Nerazzurri for the coming season, he's had the opportunity to train briefly with the new Coach.

“I'm well, I'm feeling very well,” he told Il Corriere dello Sport. “I've been training for almost two months, if you include the work I did before the ritiro.

“I think I've shown that on the pitch. I've set my mind to showing that I'm a great player.

“For the first time after many years I'm not thinking about the market at all. Besides, you really never have a clue about what could happen. I train as a professional and I think about giving it my all with Inter.

“De Boer arrived recently and we really had very little time to work all together. In Ireland, against Celtic, we did well and we tried our best to put in practice what he asked of us.

“It was an important first step, but there's still a long way to go. He wants us to take risks, to press high so we can regain the ball farther ahead.

“He wants his concepts to enter our minds quickly. In the meeting he explained what he expects from us on the pitch. I liked his ideas. It's a new way of playing that we must learn how to apply.”

Ranocchia was then asked about Mancini, who went from being at the heart of the project to a sudden sacking.

“It was a choice that surprised me as well as my teammates, not least because it all happened in the space of half a day. At 1pm Mancini gave us an appointment for next day's training, and then we all know what happened.

“I don't want to discuss the decision, because these choices belong to the directors, not to me. When a Coach leaves it's not a very positive thing for anyone working at a club, from the footballers to the staff, but now there's a new adventure to be carried forwards in the best possible way and for Inter's fans.”

Inter are leading an interesting transfer campaign, and some believe they should be considered Juventus' greatest challengers for the Scudetto.

“I'm not interested in this type of discussion, because on paper and in theory you can say a thousand things, but often things work out differently on the pitch.

“Look at what happened in England with the triumph of Leicester City.

“[Antonio] Candreva? I've known him for many years and I can assure you that he can be decisive whatever formation he plays in.

“All four of the new signings have provided international quality and depth. They are players who have experience and drive.”
