Former Roma boss Claudio Ranieri has reportedly put his name forward to replace Rafa Benitez as Newcastle United manager.

According to Sky Sports, Ranieri is ‘keen’ to return to English football and is ‘interested’ in taking over at Newcastle, who parted with former Napoli boss Benitez on Monday.

The 67-year-old won the Premier League title with Leicester City in 2016 and ended last season strongly with Roma.

However, his previous spell in England saw him recently contribute to Fulham’s relegation from the top tier.

Sky’s revelation has been followed by the ex-Inter and Juventus Coach becoming the second overall favourite behind Jose Mourinho.

Gennaro Gattuso, on the other hand, has tumbled to as low as 25/1 for some bookmakers.
