Claudio Ranieri reflected on the best teams this season, Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s move to Inter and the new arrivals in Serie A.

The summer transfer window is starting to heat up now following the conclusion of the season and some market moves are already being made, such as Mkhitaryan’s decision to leave Roma on a free transfer in order to sign for the Nerazzurri. The next few weeks will see a number of important developments take place as clubs scramble to prepare for the 2022-23 season.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ranieri first touched on which teams he thought were the best this season.

“I would say Inter, Milan and Roma for the trophies, but I am sorry for Napoli. At one point I thought they would go further. The Conference League is a real cup, Mourinho is right, if you can the trophies must always be brought home. And as a Roman and a Romanista I was overjoyed.”

He commented on Mkhitaryan’s decision to move to Inter

“A great player. For Roma it’s an important loss, but I’m convinced that José will know how to keep the team competitive. After all, his is a three-year project.”

The Italian coach spoke about the integration of new arrivals in Serie A as the teams look to strengthen.

“It’s a question of cycles. The important thing is that new players are given time to integrate. Serie A is not easy, but Pioli and Allegri know their stuff.”

Finally, Ranieri discussed the new look Italy side under Roberto Mancini and the potential of Sassuolo talent Giacomo Raspadori.

“Many great champions are finishing their careers, so it will depend on the growth of youngsters like Tonali and Scamacca.

“I am very curious about Raspadori, I want to see what he will do next year. Rest assured, good youngsters will be played by club coaches. What they all want, after all, is just to win.”

  1. I am afraid Italian coaches which are deemed to be probably the best in the world must try to play eligible italian players to help La Nazionale.
