Claudio Ranieri has confirmed that he will stick with goalkeeper Antonio Mirante for Roma’s Serie A trip to Sampdoria on Saturday.

Roma’s injury problems have eased in recent weeks, although Ranieri announced Davide Santon, Diego Perotti, Alessandro Florenzi and Javier Pastore would miss the match at Samp.

“Santon will have tests today and I’m afraid it’s something bad,” continued the Coach at his Press conference.

“He’s normally indestructible and he plays with everything he’s got. He never stops so for him to do so, it must be something bad.

“For Perotti, it’s nothing serious. He won’t be available tomorrow, but I hope to have him back for the game after.

“El Shaarawy has recovered, Pastore still hasn’t, but he’s working. Florenzi will return next week.

“I was wrong not to take Perotti off against Fiorentina. He didn’t have 90 minutes in his legs and I made him put in that one final effort.

“I’m happy with Justin, he’s young and it’s not easy to leave home and play for a club like Roma.

“He missed some balls, but he was the man who allowed us to score two goals against Fiorentina.

“He has an impressive vivacity and devastating pace. Him and Under, plus others, will be very useful for the rest of the season.

“Pellegrini’s fine, he’s not yet ready to play 90 minutes and I’ll consider whether to start him from the beginning.

“When he came on, he changed the game. He’s an intelligent lad, he knows how to play as a No 10 and he has an easiness to his game

“De Rossi also wanted to be there the other day. He never gives up and he can give us a hand in this final part of the season.”

The former Juventus and Inter boss was then asked about Edin Dzeko, who has not scored since February, and why Mirante would start over Robin Olsen for the second successive game.

“He moved well, with desire and determination,” explained the 67-year-old.

“Goals are important and he’s not scoring that many, but in the life of every striker there’s a season like the one he’s having.

“He runs for the team. Sometimes he’s selfish, but that’s because a striker must be. He wants to get going again and I hope he can. I hope he can feel good again and help us.

“Mirante did well, I think he’ll play again. If I keep changing, both will be unhappy.

“I’m reluctant to change: the psychology of a goalkeeper is unique. I wanted to give a bit of rest to Olsen, who has all my confidence.”
