Claudio Ranieri has warned his Sampdoria players that they will only move up the table if they are “men who want to face their difficulties”.

Samp have yet to win under Ranieri, drawing with Roma before losing 2-1 to Bologna, and the Coach issued a rallying cry to his underperforming side as they prepared to take on Lecce in Serie A tomorrow.

“Lecce are a good team, they’ve won consecutive promotions with the same Coach and almost the same players,” he said at a Press conference.

“They know each other by heart, they play the ball well and they’re very quick on the counterattack.

“They never give up, like we’ve seen against Juventus. It’ll be a complicated game, so we’ll have to do our best.

“It won’t be a decisive game, but it’s still important because we’ll gain three points and morale if we win.

“I expect a reaction: we must make the game our own. There’s no pessimism in the squad.

“We’re not used to the position we’re in, but we must remain calm and be positive.

“On Sunday I saw a good team: I brought on Caprari because I thought he could win the game for us, but then we lost to a corner kick.

“Each of us have difficulties in our lives, but if you let them break you down then you become overrun.

“Only men who want to face them are able to overcome them. I’ll name my XI after our last training session tomorrow morning, once I’ve talked to the lads.”
