Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri believes there is more respect in English football than in Italy.

The 64-year-old led the Foxes to an astonishing Premier League title win last season and today takes his team to Wembley to face Manchester United in the Community Shield.

The former Inter and Roma boss gave a wide ranging interview to Corriere della Sera and was asked about how football differed in England from his homeland.

“Italian football is more tactical, you have to watch out for a thousand details!” began Ranieri. “English football is changing, but it isn’t so tactical, the matches are more open.

“That’s what the public want, the team has to try to win, not try to hold what it has. Everything is simpler and less dramatic.

“If the fans see you on the street, they congratulate you if you win, and if you’ve lost they say ‘keep going, it will be better next time.’

“There is more respect for others in England. Football simply reflects this.”

Ranieri was also asked whether Italian Coaches find it difficult returning to Serie A after a spell in the Premier League.

“It depends on the individual character. It’s true that in England you feel spoilt! They sack you here too, but they don’t bite your head off after the first loss!”
