Paul Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, claims his departure was agreed last year – “we had an agreement with Juventus”.

The French international joined Manchester United this summer for a world-record fee of €105m, but his representative says he could have left a year earlier.

“Paul could have left as early as last year,” Raiola told Rai Sport.

“[Jose] Mourinho already wanted him at Chelsea, but we had an agreement with Juventus to win the League and Champions League and then goodbye.

“I think [Napoli President Aurelio] De Laurentiis should give Paul a great gift, because Juventus would never have spent €90m to get [Gonzalo] Higuain from Napoli [without the Pogba money].”

Raiola also represents Mario Balotelli, who is aiming to get his career back on track with French side Nice.

“He had so many offers, also from Italy. He’s capable of the Ballon d’Or and he can be reborn at Nice.”
