Adrien Rabiot’s mum and agent Veronique defends the Juventus midfielder: ‘He has nothing to prove. In Italy, they say he’s not good enough, but he plays every game.’

The France international moved to Turin as a free agent in the summer of 2019 but has had many highs and lows during his two-year and a half spell at the Allianz Stadium. He is one of Juventus’ highest earners with a €7m-a-year salary.

“I don’t know where the negative image that the media has of us comes from, they destroy us all the time,” she told Ouest-France, as quoted by Il Corriere dello Sport.

“Adrien has nothing to prove, he plays football and it is his passion on and off the pitch.

“When he’s not playing, he’d like to have a decent life and not spend time justifying himself. In Italy, they say that it is not good enough, but he does not care about playing all games.

“The goal of players is to reach the maximum levels, but not everyone knows how many sacrifices it takes and what a strong mentality one must have to face this life. Everyone thinks they are paid too much, but they know nothing.

“They’ve never forgiven anything to my son. He’s always been criticised since he was 17. Everyone makes mistakes. Footballers are not robots. We have an excellent relationship, in private and professional life. I don’t understand why media are always targeting us, maybe because we don’t speak much with them.”

Rabiot has played 120 games with Juventus, scoring six goals and delivering six assists. He has 36 appearances across all competitions this season.

The 26-year-old has 25 senior caps to his name with the France national team. He made his debut with Les Blues in November 2016.

His contract at the Allianz Stadium expires in June 2023 but this could be his last season in Turin as he’s been linked with a move to the Premier League since January.

Newcastle United are one of the clubs monitoring the Frenchman. Rabiot has already played six months in England as back in 2009 he was part of Manchester City’s youth sector. He remained in the UK from January to July.

  1. Rabiot is the main reaons why players like Fagioli and Rovella never get to play in Juve. Cause Juve has to pay Rabiot 7m …
    Legacy of Paratici

  2. @Brian, in fairness he is not the reason why younger players never get played. The management make those decisions not Adrien.
