Fabio Quagliarella was in tears when describing the injury that has ended his season. “It's so painful to stop right when I was getting to my peak.”

The Juventus forward collapsed with a snapped knee ligament during the first three minutes of their 4-1 home defeat to Parma on Thursday.

“I am so very upset at having to leave Juventus at this moment,” he told Tuttosport while fighting back tears.

The setback will keep him on the sidelines for around six months, so the club has signed Luca Toni from Genoa as a replacement.

Meanwhile, Juventus have reportedly handed a huge €150,000 fine to Felipe Melo after his red card in the same match.

The midfielder was dismissed for kicking Massimo Paci in the face and has been suspended for three Serie A rounds.
