Gianluigi Buffon should be back in goal when Juventus face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Buffon looks set to play his first Champions League game for Juve since he was sent off in a dramatic quarter-final defeat to Real Madrid two seasons ago.

Elsewhere, Miralem Pjanic is suspended for the next round of Serie A so he is free to start as the Old Lady’s playmaker against Leverkusen.

However, Sami Khedira and Rodrigo Bentancur are both injured and Emre Can is not eligible to play in Europe.

However, Sami Khedira and Rodrigo Bentancur are both injured and Emre Can is not eligible to play in Europe.

Therefore, Juan Cuadrado could move into the middle, in a season where the winger has already been forced out of his comfort zone at right-back.

Federico Bernardeschi should play as the No 10 behind Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo up top, while Daniele Rugani is expected to get the nod over Merih Demiral as Leonardo Bonucci’s centre-back partner.

Leverkusen, meanwhile, are tipped to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, and a win could see them join Juve in the Round of 16..

Fielding their best XI would mean Kevin Volland will most likely lead the line as a lone striker. He should be supported by a trio of Kai Havertz, Karim Bellarabi and Leon Bailey.

Lukas Hradecky will play in goal, whilst Bender brothers Lars and Sven will surely form the back four with Jonathan Tah and Wendell.

Juventus (probable): Buffon; Danilo, Bonucci, Rugani, De Sciglio; Cuadrado, Pjanic, Matuidi; Bernardeschi; Higuain, Ronaldo

Bayer Leverkusen (probable): Hradecky; L Bender, Tah, S Bender, Wendell; Aranguiz, Baumgartlinger; Bellarabi, Havertz, Bailey; Volland
