Napoli have Lorenzo Insigne and Eljif Elmas back, but not Fabian Ruiz, while Juventus can count on Arthur and Federico Chiesa, with Paulo Dybala expected to be on the bench.

Their first Serie A game of 2022 kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin on Thursday at 19.45 GMT.

There were doubts as to whether Napoli would be allowed to travel at all considering the growing COVID-19 outbreak within the club, as Alex Meret and another member of staff tested positive today.

Mario Rui is suspended anyway, but he is also on the list of players infected along with Victor Osimhen, Fabian Ruiz, Hirving Lozano, Kevin Malcuit, coach Luciano Spalletti and another member of staff.

Meanwhile, Kalidou Koulibaly, Adam Ounas and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa are on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Eljif Elmas received the all-clear and has been rushed back for a spot on the bench with Andrea Petagna.

There are several youth team players brought along to make up the numbers.

As for Juventus, Giorgio Chiellini and Carlo Pinsoglio have COVID-19, but Arthur Melo has now recovered and is available.

Kaio Jorge and Luca Pellegrini had flu symptoms this week, but not COVID, and are out of action.

Leonardo Bonucci, Danilo and Aaron Ramsey are injured, so here again there are precious few alternatives.

Max Allegri said that Paulo Dybala and Federico Chiesa will alternate upfront, with the Italian expected to start upfront.

Probable line-ups

Juventus (4-2-3-1): Szczesny; Cuadrado, Rugani, De Ligt, Alex Sandro; Bentancur, Locatelli; Chiesa, Dybala, Bernardeschi; Morata

Napoli (4-2-3-1): Ospina; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Juan Jesus, Ghoulam; Demme, Lobotka; Politano, Zielinski, Insigne; Mertens

  1. Out of date. Call the game off it’s ridiculous that 3 more players who are on the plane, now cannot play either!

  2. Both teams are depleted and look balanced against each other.

I’d say Napoli actually have the edge here with their first team attack in place.

  3. Lol Napoli have the edge? With their starting ST, RW, all three starting midfielders, both starting CBs, and starting LB out?
