With Milan losing to Juventus on Saturday, a win would catapult Atalanta into the fourth and final Champions League spot.

However, Gian Piero Gasperini has to do without suspended star striker Duvan Zapata, who scored 20 Serie A goals this season.

There are a few alternatives he could use, such as Musa Barrow as a lighter centre-forward, or even 18-year-old Primavera youth team striker Roberto Piccoli.

However, the most likely option is a False 9, or even several of them.

Both Papu Gomez and Josip Ilicic could take the central role with support from the other player plus Mario Pasalic, but they could also regularly rotate their positions in the front three to confuse the opposition defence.

There is a choice to be made also between Jose Luis Palomino and Berat Djimsiti in defence, while Timothy Castagne and Robin Gosens are vying for the left wing-back role.

Inter are still without injured Lautaro Martinez, Stefan de Vrij and Sime Vrsaljko, but Icardi returned with a bang in the midweek 4-0 victory at Genoa.

Maurito earned and converted a penalty, then provided the assist for Ivan Perisic, but this is his first time facing the San Siro crowd after he was stripped of the captaincy and negotiated a comeback to training via a lawyer.

Cedric Soares looks set to again miss out to Danilo D’Ambrosio on the right, so the only real question mark for Luciano Spalletti is in midfield.

Roberto Gagliardini had an excellent performance against Genoa, scoring two goals, and would relish the opportunity to face his former club.

He is therefore the favourite to start rather than Matias Vecino.

Probable line-ups

Inter (4-2-3-1): Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Miranda, Skriniar, Asamoah; Vecino/Gagliardini, Brozovic; Politano, Nainggolan, Perisic; Icardi

Atalanta (3-4-2-1): Gollini; Mancini, Palomino, Masiello; Hateboer, De Roon, Freuler, Gosens; Pasalic, Ilicic; Gomez
