Pressure grows on Inter coach Simone Inzaghi ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Benfica, but Corriere dello Sport claims the Nerazzurri boss could decide to leave at the end of the season rather than be sacked.

The Nerazzurri haven’t won any of the last six games across all competitions and visit Benfica in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night at the Estadio da Luz.

Inzaghi is under pressure with all Italian media discussing his future ahead of tonight’s key European fixture.

Gazzetta claims that Inzaghi has ‘no more bonuses to use’, adding that a heavy defeat in Portugal would pave the way to ‘apocalypse scenarios’ for the 47-year-old.

‘Nevertheless, we are sure he has prepared the game in detail and is planning to use the Champions League to hit back at critics,’ argues Sebastiano Vernazza.

Il Corriere dello Sport offers a different view saying that Inzaghi is so fed up with critiques that he’s considering leaving the Nerazzurri at the end of the season.

‘Nothing has been decided in the coach’s mind,’ stresses Pietro Guadagno, ‘but the ideal scenario would be to leave with an important target, to get more satisfaction and take a sort of revenge.’

Inter still have plenty to play for this season. They may be battling for a top-four finish in Serie A, but still have hopes to qualify for the Coppa Italia Final after a 1-1 draw against Juventus in the semi-final first leg in Turin last week. At the same time, Inter will meet Milan or Napoli in the next round if they eliminate Benfica from the Champions League quarter-finals.

Last summer, Inzaghi signed a contract extension until 2024 at the Stadio Meazza. Antonio Conte, Sergio Conceçao and Roberto De Zerbi have been mentioned as possible replacements in 2023-24.
