Richard Masters is feeling relaxed ahead of the expected Super League 2.0 launch later today, noting that it previously ‘defeat itself’.

Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and Barcelona president Joan Laporta are still spearheading a new Super League project, with the new proposal set to address some of the fans’ previous concerns such as the guaranteed places to the bigger clubs.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Business of Football Summit organised by the Financial Times, Premier League CEO Masters discussed the possibility of a Super League 2.0.

“I am not worried. The other time it lasted 48 hours, it was a badly thought out project and it went ahead. It defeated itself.”

Many fans are concerned about the new proposal, which would likely challenge the Champions League as Europe’s premier club competition. It is expected to be fully revealed later today, when all details will be announced.

It is likely that opposition will be high again, although there’s a chance that the changes could convince fans of the competition, but history is against Agnelli, Laporta and Perez.

  1. If these guys knew economics and a business plan, they could run their clubs within a budget. But like Agnelli, when you are born with a silver spoon, or a trust fund baby, you don’t know how to run a business. The entitlement of these men is incredible.

  2. I dont understand why fans are against a super league!! Its entertainment. Strong teams play against strong teams. No need for those minor teams. Really… A structure that guarantees relegation (for those who end in the last spots of standing) and promotion (for those prove strong in a certain formula or based on their local results) would guarantee participation of all strong teams in europe.

Just like when you creat a league in FIFA PS4 and choose the strongest team.

    Entertainment people… Entertainment!

  3. But the issue is Juventus are not a big side in Europe. They couldn’t defeat Ajax, Lyon, Porto and drew against Villarreal. Plus they have never won the competition in the modern era. If there is to be a Super League Juventus must first win a few CL’s or qualify for the potential new format just like Arsenal and Spurs.

  4. @Moggi They can have their super league. Seria A and EUFA will be fine without them. They can be like a traveling circus. Doing their clown acts.
