Former Roma Coach Cesare Prandelli believes “the soul is missing” from the current side, after another summer of sales.

The former Italy CT was appointed as Giallorossi boss in 2004, though he never actually took charge of a game as he left to care for his sick wife.

“They’ve changed a lot, maybe the soul of the team is missing,” Prandelli said on Radio 24.

“[Radja] Nainggolan and [Kevin] Strootman probably had some physical problems, but in terms of character they could be reference points.

“They need to improve fast, because Roma is an exciting place but a difficult one. Now it’s up to the players on the pitch to improve the aspects that aren’t working right now.

“The Coach [Eusebio Di Francesco] was covered with praise from all over Italy last year, because he took the team to the Champions League finals playing beautiful, balanced football.

“Now a few months later it seems like things aren’t working. He needs to be given time.”
