The Azzurri would’ve been one of the seeds for Friday’s draw in Brazil had they won either of their final two group games against Denmark and Armenia, but both ended in stalemates after qualification had been secured.

“If we had been top seeds, then we would’ve been happier, but perhaps it could be better this way considering our character,” said Prandelli at the Italian Football Hall of Fame event.

“Italy did very well in the group phase, qualifying with two games to spare, something that had never happened before.

“Of course, the way FIFA work out the seeding should probably be revised, because now we are in quite a difficult position for the draw.”

Prandelli’s contract expires over the summer and he was again asked whether he will stay on the Italy bench after the World Cup.

“My position will be clear before the World Cup. We will have clear ideas on the future and reach the event knowing everything in a transparent manner.

“Do I have two or three doubts for the World Cup squad? More than that…”
