Miralem Pjanic explained his decision to sign a four-year contract extension at Roma. “I’m here to win.”

The Bosnian international had been wanted by the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

However, before today’s 1-0 home defeat to Juventus, it was announced he had signed a new contract holding him until June 2018.

“A contract is not done from one day to the next, especially in a difficult season where I was concentrated on my performance,” the 24-year-old told Mediaset Premium.

“Everyone knew I was happy to stay, as I want to continue taking the Roma jersey as high as possible.

“We will certainly be challenging for the Scudetto next season. We had a great campaign and Juve deserve compliments, as they broke records to win.

“This squad was built for victory and the mentality changed with Rudi Garcia. It is thanks to the Coach that I decided to stay, as I am here to win for many years.”

There was controversy in tonight’s 1-0 defeat to Juventus, as Giorgio Chiellini was caught on camera elbowing Pjanic.

“There was contact, I didn’t see who it was, but I noticed I was bleeding and showed the referee. Chiellini also had a very nasty foul on me in Turin.

“It’s a shame about that very late goal, but it was a well-worked move. The game was even and we could’ve scored earlier.”

Pjanic also confirmed he will be leaving Roma a week early this season to join up with Bosnia’s World Cup squad.
