Gerard Pique admits Roma “stood up to us and played some great football”, but insists Barcelona make their own luck.

The Blaugrana won 4-1 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final with two own goals and a Maxime Gonalons assist to Luis Suarez.

“We had a good game. Maybe not conceding would’ve been better, but we’ll take a good result to Rome,” Pique told BeIN Sports.

“We had a good game. Maybe not conceding would’ve been better, but we’ll take a good result to Rome,” Pique told BeIN Sports.

“A lot of people said it would be easy, but they stood up to us. It’s true that they were more defensive than we expected, but they still played some great football.”

Bizarrely, Barcelona have scored six Champions League goals with Leo Messi this season and five were turned into their own net by opponents.

“It’s not down to luck. Several of our attempts didn’t go in. I think if these goals went in, it’s because we pushed up. The ball was in their box more.

“We try to do our job, putting ourselves in with a chance of winning every competition. The season is still looking very good for us.”
