Stefano Pioli is not worried about Franck Kessié, but admits he may not start against Atalanta tomorrow.

The Rossoneri visit La Dea tomorrow. It kicks off at 19.45 UK time.

The Ivorian midfielder is in the spotlight as he hasn’t yet reached an agreement to extend his expiring contract at San Siro and was sent off against Atletico Madrid earlier this week.

Pioli: ‘Ibra not available against Atalanta, but he could play forever’

“I am not worried about Kessié,” Pioli said at a pre-match press conference.

“Franck’s attitude is the best possible. The same as last season: work, commitment and professionalism. He is the same as last season, it’s normal that he is not 100 per cent fit.

“It’s wrong to judge his performance based on his contract,” the coach continued.

“I assess him for what he gives me on the field. There are a lot of players with their contracts expiring, but there’s not that much fuss.

“There is a negotiation, the time will come for decisions, whether negative or positive. I repeat, I’m not worried.”

However, Kessié may not start against La Dea tomorrow.

“I have three starters, two will play tomorrow. Tonali and Bennacer are doing well, Franck is fine. One of them will help us during the game,” Pioli said.

  1. Although I like the whole “happy family” approach that Milan always strives for, I hope behind the scenes they are putting their foot down and giving him an ultimatum. Otherwise we will continue to be taken for a ride by any decent player who decides to stall things until he can leave on a free to get a big salary elsewhere.
