Stefano Pioli explains why Divock Origi is not in the Milan squad against Sampdoria. ‘It was best not to risk it.’

It kicks off at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT) at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, also known as Marassi.

The Rossoneri received a boost after winning the Derby della Madonnina 3-2, but were then held 1-1 by RB Salzburg midweek in the Champions League.

Former Liverpool striker Origi had been tipped to get his first start this evening, but instead hasn’t made the trip at all due to a muscular issue.

“It’s disappointing, because he’s a good player, but he didn’t feel right at the end of the training session. The muscle was hardening up, so it was best not to risk it,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

Sampdoria have already held Juventus and Lazio to stalemates at Marassi so far this season and seem to do better against big clubs.

“At the moment, we shouldn’t look at the table. Samp worked very hard in their games against Juventus and Lazio, so they are an opponent to be respected.

“We want to continue our current path, trying to do better game by game.”
