“All games start from 0-0, we are up against the strongest team in Italy and one of the best in Europe, but we must go into big challenges and big opportunities with our heads held high.”
It’s not easy considering they are in the bottom half of the table, level on points with Udinese, and already on their second tactician of the campaign.
“We don’t have many points and those regrets ought to push us on to be more concentrated on the details. We weren’t outplayed by anyone, but we did allow ourselves to be taken by surprise in some situations and must learn from those experiences.
“With more precision and fewer errors, we can start racking up more results. It’s difficult to talk about a turning point, but we are lagging behind and need to get going. A good result in Turin would mean a lot, but we must always be ready to fight.”
Pioli tested out a three-man defence in training, with Suso and Hakan Calhanoglu supporting Krzysztof Piatek in a 3-4-1-2 formation.
“Training sessions are used to experiment situations, so we’ll see which formation we use tomorrow. Suso is available and fully recovered. We already used three at the back in the second half against Lazio.
"We need to be aggressive and read the situations well, because we know Juve make the right choices almost every time. They have few weak spots, but they are there, and we’ve got to highlight them.
“The way to get the best out of Piatek is to play more in the opposition penalty area that we currently do. At the other end, we’ve got to be very careful to allow Cristiano Ronaldo as little space as possible. He’s one of the greatest of all time and has many different ways of doing damage.
“I ask the fans to keep supporting us, even during the most difficult times. If there’s one element of the Milan world that is doing its absolute best at the moment, it’s the fans.”
Fabio Capello said that the only new signings worthy of Milan are Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez.
“We are a young team, but not immature. Suso is a fully-formed player, as is Alessio Romagnoli. Gigio Donnarumma might only be 20 years old, but he has a lot of experience already. Luca Biglia and Pepe Reina have been internationals for many years,” argued Pioli.
“I sat Leao down and showed him what he did right and wrong against Lazio. He is well aware that he didn’t come off the bench with the right spirit, so I hope he learned that lesson and his next performance will be of a higher level.”
