“The result was more important than the performance this evening, although the better you play, the more likely you are to win,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.
“We played as a team with a soul and won an important match. We knew that Lazio would have difficulty with two players close to Lucas Biglia, so we tried alternatives with Ivan Perisic wide and Antonio Candreva in a more central position.
“We were fortunate at the start, but quality by itself is not enough, you need determination and hard work too. We’ve got a great goalkeeper and it’s only right that he makes these saves.
“In order to be competitive we need that spirit and sense of collaboration where everyone contributes to the team.”
With that in mind, why did Gabigol only come on for the final five minutes? It was the 20-year-old’s third appearance of the season, having previously managed 19 minutes in total, and his every fancy flick was greeted with wild applause from the San Siro crowd.
“I am happy at the enthusiasm for Gabigol, but I’d like to see him make some moves that are more useful and not just spectacular for the sake of being spectacular,” noted Pioli.
“Will he remain? We are evaluating the situation. Our first objective in January is to whittle down the squad, because we want players who are happy to be at a big club like Inter.
“We are Inter, proud to be a big team and will go forward only with those who share that view.”
