Atalanta President Antonio Percassi has tried to dispel rumours that Franck Kessie will leave the club.

Speaking to L'Eco di Bergamo, the Orobici supremo also praised Coach Gian Piero Gasperini and spoke about their in form young striker Andrea Petagna.

Kessie has been subject to attention from several big clubs, but Percassi was keen to stress that the club wants to keep hold of the starlet until the summer.

"I do not think that Kessie will leave Bergamo in January, but then who knows what will happen. I hope that he will remain at Atalanta until June.

“I believe that this issue should be spoken about in a different way, the important thing is to strengthen the team, not to avoid losing players. We must reinvest to get stronger, as is the example shown by Torino.”

Atalanta have won their last two games and now sit twelth in the Serie A standings, and despite a shaky start, the President was always willing to give Gasperini some time after his arrival in the summer.

“Gasperini needed three months to adjust – as is normal for a Coach arriving at a new team – to experience and interpret his surroundings.
Now here we are: the coach has understood and has the team under control."

The President was also asked about Andrea Petagna, Atalanta’s 21-year-old striker who has scored three goals in four appearances for La Dea.

"Petagna is doing unthinkable things, if he keeps his head up, who knows how good he can be. If I had signed Marco Borriello, then when would he [Petagna] have played?".
