"I'm happy because I wanted to make a commitment to this team. To tell the truth little has changed for me because I'm a professional and I have to continue to prove my worth."

Speaking to Rai Sport, the 23-year-old also spoke about his new contract, which ties him to the Nerazzurri until 2021.

"I'm happy because I wanted to make a commitment to this team. To tell the truth little has changed for me because I'm a professional and I have to continue to prove my worth."

Icardi was also questioned about his side’s poor start to the Europa League, having lost their opening two group-stage fixtures, with Southampton still to play.

“We started badly but we have plenty of time to get back on track and to improve our fortunes.”

The striker was also asked about the differences between his current boss Frank de Boer and former Inter Coach Roberto Mancini, and the captain was keen to emphasise the team’s contentment with the Dutchman’s harsher methods.

“The former was calmer and quieter whilst Mr. de Boer is much more agitated than his predecessor and this is fine with the team.”

When asked about his continued exclusion from the Argentina national team, Icardi once again expressed his desire to play for his country.

“I made my debut in 2013 and hope to return to play in the Argentina shirt very soon."
