Atletico Madrid’s Alessio Cerci has stated that he would ‘come back willingly’ to Serie A, with Lazio one of the options he is said to be considering.

In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, the 29-year-old former Roma, Torino and Fiorentina man stated that his recovery from injury is almost complete, which could pave the way for a January return to Italy.

"The injury is behind me, my right knee has responded really well. Within a month, a month and a half, I'll be ready to play.

"I'm much better and I'm happy, I keep re-educating myself. I have started running on the pitch, I’m practicing with the ball, and I’m now able to do a more intensive physical workout.

“Of course, I'd rather go back to Italy, I grew up with football there. If I find a solution I’ll come back willingly. But I’m not ruling out other options, it would not be a problem to play overseas.

“After two exceptional years, I found myself in Madrid and in the first four months I did not start except once in the Copa Del Rey. This made me think, and prompted me to make an immediate change. I understand that when you go to a big club you can not presume to play right away, but I thought I deserved a chance.

“I have nothing against anyone, I made my choices. Simeone has always respected me, he selected who he thought was right for the team. At that time I had very good options and I chose AC Milan, which I thought it was the right choice. It was not easy with the Rossoneri for a number of reasons.

“In the summer there was the interest of Lazio, who were not convinced because of my right knee, let's see what will happen in the coming months.

"It wouldn't be a problem to play for Lazio, I grew up at Roma and I have good memories, but football means you make choices based on where you'll play.

"[Antonio] Candreva had problems at first, but then he won over everyone at Lazio. His is an obvious example.

"Ciro Immobile? We often talk through texts, we're on good terms. After that season we had at Torino together, we hope to meet again and recreate something beautiful."
