Lorenzo Pellegrini assures “I want to stay” at Roma, and believes Cristiano Ronaldo joining Juventus would be “a good thing for Italian football”.

The midfielder arrived at the Villa Stuart clinic for his pre-season medical tests this morning, and spoke to journalists outside.

“We’ve made a lot of signings, we hope to do well in the league,” Pellegrini said.

“We want to do better than last year, being more consistent. Both I and the team have to improve. We need to work hard, we’ve made signings but so have other teams.

“It’s a long season and we have to do better than last year.

“Could the new signings push me out? No, I want to stay. I know a lot of players have been signed, like [Javier] Pastore will play as a mezzala.

“In the end I can only focus on myself and I think if I keep improving we’ll all find our space.”

Pellegrini was also asked about the hot story of the moment, Cristiano Ronaldo's potential move to Juventus.

"He's the best player in the world in the world. It's a good thing for Italian football, it's good for us young people."
