Pietro Pellegri faces six weeks out after Monaco confirmed the Italian starlet would undergo groin surgery on Tuesday.

The news was confirmed in a statement on Monaco’s website, just three weeks after Pellegri became the youngest player to turn out for the Ligue 1 side in 40 years.

However, those four minutes remain his only ones for the principality side, with the 16-year-old currently behind Radamel Falcao, Keita Balde Diao and Stevan Jovetic in pecking order.

Monaco beat the likes of Juventus, Milan and Inter to sign Pellegri in January, paying Genoa a reported €25m.
