Pedro revealed the difficult nature of his departure from Roma last summer and the circumstances leading to a rare direct move to Lazio.
The 2010 World Cup winner joined the Giallorossi on a free transfer in September 2020 after his contract expired with Chelsea. He spent only one season with Roma, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in 28 Serie A appearances. The Spaniard then agreed to terminate his contract with the club after only 12 months in order to join Lazio on a free transfer.
Speaking to Lazio Style Radio, Pedro reflected upon his departure from Roma and the call that came from Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri.
“I was going through a difficult situation at Roma, they left me out of the squad without anyone from the management talking to me, they told me I had to leave.
“When I spoke to Sarri it was an opportunity, it’s true that a transfer like this hadn’t happened for a long time but I’m very happy to be here.”
The 34-year-old Pedro has made 37 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2376 minutes. In that time, he’s scored nine goals and provided five assists, being one of the key players in Sarri’s squad.
