Giampaolo Pazzini admits he was “hurt” by Sampdoria's accusations and reveals why he joined Inter after months of links with Juventus.

“It was a bolt from the blue, but a very important opportunity for me,” he said in his presentation Press conference.

“I read a great deal in the newspapers about Juve, but in all honesty the club that proved it wanted me, did everything to get me and took genuine action was Inter. When that happens, you have to accept.

“It all happened in the space of a couple of days. I found out on Monday and that shows how determined Inter were to seal the deal.

“Coming here is certainly an achievement for a player, but must also be a starting point, seeing as until now I have won nothing in my career. I arrive with great excitement and enthusiasm.”

There was an ugly split from Sampdoria, though, as President Riccardo Garrone claimed Pazzini was “distracted by the siren call” of Inter and therefore not performing to his best abilities.

“I will not disguise that I was hurt, but I don't want to say anything back, as Samp gave me a great deal over the years and it was a fantastic experience.

“It really did hurt me to hear claims I was unprofessional. Recently I had to play several games with pain-killing injections, but the President didn't come to the locker room, so perhaps that's why he didn't know that. Sampdoria will always remain a part of me.”

The Blucerchiati also sold Antonio Cassano to Milan over the January transfer window, so they will face off in the Derby della Madonnina.

“That's going to be strange and nobody could've imagined it. Milan are in front right now, but I got the clear impression no-one in this squad is resting on their laurels.”
