Pau Lopez will officially join Olympique Marseille on a permanent deal following a triggered clause in his loan deal from Roma.

The 27-year-old Spanish shot stopper joined the Ligue 1 side on a loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy clause attached, linked to the number of appearances made. He started in tonight’s match against Bordeaux, his 20th appearance of the campaign, and so that clause has now been triggered.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Marseille will now pay Roma €12m for Pau Lopez, which will be included in next season’s budget, giving the team some extra funds to work with in the summer.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been a mainstay in Jorge Sampaoli’s Marseille squad this season, quickly replacing veteran Steve Mandanda in the starting 11. He has shone in the south of France, with his strong distribution skills being key in the team’s build-up play. He struggled to find his footing with Roma, but now that’s a thing of the past.
