Palermo have revealed that Vincenzo Montella was at the top of their summer coaching wish-list before he joined Fiorentina.

The Rosanero hired Giuseppe Sannino after his success at Siena, but it seems that Montella had caught their eye while last season at Catania.

“Sannino was not the Coach that we wanted to go for,” President Maurizio Zamparini told Gr Parlamento on Monday.

“We wanted Montella but, after he didn’t go to Roma, Fiorentina were served him up on a silver platter…”

Sannino lasted three League games before he was replaced by Gian Piero Gasperini – but the club are still struggling and only one point above the drop zone.

“I have great faith in Gasperini,” Zamparini added. “He’s an excellent Coach and I’m satisfied. The squad have adapted to his tactics and I’m sure we’ll have a great second half of the season.”
