Gianluca Pagliuca believes Inter “can win the Scudetto” but isn’t ready to write off Juventus yet.

The former goalkeeper made over 300 appearances for the Nerazzurri, winning the UEFA Cup in 1998.

Today’s Beneamata side are joint-top of Serie A under Roberto Mancini, but have scored just 12 goals in their opening 12 games.

“Compared to Fiorentina, Napoli and Roma, Inter have ‘harder’ players with different characteristics,” Pagliuca explained to EuropaCalcio.

“They don’t play great football, but Mancini’s team is practical and they’re definitely one of the teams who can win the Scudetto.

“Juventus? The Bianconeri are still in the running for the title, they’re nine points behind Fiorentina and Inter, but Juventus are capable of anything.

“Inter, Roma, Napoli and Fiorentina are favourites, but [Max] Allegri’s team can have a good second round for a great end to the season.”

Pagliuca also discussed Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who returned this summer after a disappointing spell at Bayern Munich.

“It’s important for them to have this kind of player. Reina is a goalkeeper I like, and I didn’t understand his choice to go to Bayern Munich and be second-choice to [Manuel] Neuer.

“I think he made a mistake, and luckily for Napoli he returned. I think if the Azzurri had Reina in goal last season they would not have come fourth [Napoli finished fifth] but probably third or maybe even second.”
