There has been heavy speculation in recent days that the former Roma man will return to Argentina with Boca Juniors, and the Inter director admits that would be a good solution.

“At the moment I don’t know, it’s something the player is pursuing,” Ausilio revealed in an interview with Inter Channel.

“If he’s happy to go there for five months, the last word will go to Southampton since he’s not owned by Inter, but we’re happy to do that.

“We gave him the freedom to find the destination that feels right for him, with our full support. If he goes back to Buenos Aires and it makes him happy, then it makes me happy.

“He won’t come back after four months in Argentina, because he’s not ours.

“He’s loaned to us until June 30, on July 1 he’ll become a Saints player again.”

Ausilio also discussed the capture of Xherdan Shaqiri, revealing the Beneamata had been tracking the winger for years.

“When did negations start? With Bayern, at the end of the year. With his entourage and family, three years ago.

“His brother was here, and remembered the things we said before Shaqiri went to Bayern when he was not yet a complete player.

“We’ve maintained the relationship, so it was easier to reactivate talks. We talked in November, more or less when [Coach Roberto] Mancini arrived.

“He made it clear he wanted a certain type of player, and we put a few names on the table.

“The Coach told me that he liked him [Shaqiri] and we made the approach.”
