The campaign was slated to finish on May 22, giving the Azzurri boss just 19 days to prepare for Euro 2016, but after a meeting of the Lega Serie A today, this has been changed.

The season will now run from August 23 to May 15.

“We’ve had a request from [FIGC President Carlo] Tavecchio to end the next Serie A season on May 15 and the board granted this request with no problems,” Lega Serie A President Maurizio Beretta revealed.

“Next season will therefore run from August 23 to May 15, there will be an extra midweek in February, and we’ve also decided that the Supercoppa will be played in China on August 8.

“There are two possible exceptions: that one of the two teams is involved in the European Super Cup or that one is in the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

“Today Tavecchio presented the needs of the national team to board of the League. The central point was the request to end the next season in the middle of May, and that request was granted.”

Beretta also revealed that goal-line technology is likely to be given the go-ahead on next Friday.

“This will be the main point of discussion of next Friday’s meeting.

“I think, that goal-line technology will be approved.

“The cost? That’s a discussion we’ll have on Friday, but I do not think that will be a decisive issue.”
