Victor Osimhen revealed that the loss to Milan hurt the Napoli squad and he felt that they should have been awarded a penalty in the first half.

The Rossoneri picked up a vital 1-0 win at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona last weekend, with Olivier Giroud proving to be the difference maker in the 49th minute. The win saw the Milanese club rise to the top of the league table, sitting three points clear of the Partenopei and two points clear of Inter, who have a game in hand.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, Osimhen first revealed the emotional impact of the 1-0 loss to Milan.

“The defeat against Milan hurt us. We didn’t play a great game but of course we are aware that we played against a strong team.

“We analysed the game in depth and the mistakes we made in order to correct them, but I repeat that it was a hard defeat to digest.”

The 23-year-old Nigerian striker then highlighted that Napoli should have been awarded a penalty in the first half of the match, something that could have significantly changed the outcome.

“Obviously it was a foul. I didn’t try to simulate because if I had I would have got a yellow card. I expected the referee to go to Var, but he didn’t. It’s a shame, but it’s okay. It’s a pity but it’s okay, the referee’s decision was different and we have to accept it.”

Osimhen has made 23 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1593 minutes. In that time, he’s scored 11 goals and provided four assists.

  1. It must be hard for them since they were utterly dominated and they need in their head to find some reason for their loss other than the fact they beaten by the better team. If Osimhen was a penalty then Bennacer was a penalty too. Its good to see Osimhen has finally got out of Kalulu’s pocket to make the interview though, well done on that I guess.

  2. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of the top teams in Serie A admit that they just got out played. Every loss is the refs fault no matter what. You could argue both games should have been draws. Now both teams come out +1 better, call it a wash and move on!
