Former Azzurri player Joseph Oshadogan said the Carlo Tavecchio racism scandal shows “the worst side of Italy.”

The ex-defender was one of the first black players to wear the Italy jersey, but is stunned by the fact clubs continue to back Tavecchio for FIGC President.

“My first reaction was incredulity,” Oshadogan told G2 Parlamento.

“It’s a shame, because some people never miss a chance to show off the worst side of Italy. We always manage to get negative attention in the world.

“After so many years of experiencing this attitude in person as a player, then in other roles, it looks as if nothing ever changes.

“People talk about the importance of educating young people, but for the last 20 years I’ve heard that and these situations keep happening.

“What you really don’t expect is to hear certain statements from the institutions.

“It is unthinkable that a person who is aiming for the Presidency of the Federation can say something like that. I remain shocked and incredulous.”
