Simone Inzaghi only seems to have one doubt for his Inter starting XI against Liverpool, as Alessandro Bastoni returns in defence and Nicolò Barella is suspended, but the question marks are upfront.

The first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie is at San Siro on Wednesday at 20.00 GMT.

The Nerazzurri are forced to do without Italy international Barella due to a ban, so his place will be taken by Arturo Vidal, especially as Matias Vecino is not 100 per cent fit.

Another more defensive option would be Roberto Gagliardini, but the Chilean seems to be the first choice.

The good news is that Bastoni has shaken off an ankle knock and is expected to start in defence, with Denzel Dumfries and Ivan Perisic as the wing-backs.

There is only one real doubt at the moment and that is who Inzaghi will field upfront.

Most reports point to Edin Dzeko being certain of his spot, with Lautaro Martinez the favourite rather than Alexis Sanchez.

Lautaro has scored 12 goals in 31 competitive appearances this season, but none of those were in the Champions League.

The Argentina international has also failed to find the net in his last six Serie A matches, since a 5-0 victory over Salernitana on December 17.

He did convert a penalty in the Supercoppa against Juventus in January, but Alexis Sanchez came off the bench and got the last-gasp winner in extra time.

Sanchez has six goals in 24 games this season, one of those in the Champions League during a 3-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk on November 3.

He scored in three of his last seven appearances in all competition, despite starting only two of those matches.

There is of course another alternative, which would be to use Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez together, but Dzeko seems confident.

After all, the Bosnian has put five goals past Liverpool in his career, netting home and away for Roma in the 2017-18 Champions League semi-final.

Inter: Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Vidal, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Perisic; Lautaro Martinez, Dzeko
