Milan and Napoli were neck-and-neck going into the final round of the 1987-88 Serie A campaign, with the Rossoneri only two points clear at the top.
Whereas Napoli hosted European-chasing Sampdoria in their last game, their title rivals travelled to Como, whose top-flight status still had to be confirmed.
The Diavolo took just two minutes to take the lead through Pietro Virdis, who danced past three opposing defenders before firing past Mario Paradisi.

They dominated throughout yet were pegged back just after half-time, when Salvatore Giunta tapped in from close range.
Fortunately for Milan, a surprise defeat was never on the cards and they more than held on to win the first Scudetto of the Sacchi era.
Despite famously never playing professionally football, the 74-year-old guided the San Siro club to a Supercoppa, two European Cups, one European Super Cup and two Intercontinental Cups until he became Italy’s CT in 1991.
He returned in December 1996 but could only guide them to 11th place, culminating in their heaviest Serie A loss on home soil – a 6-1 reverse at the hands of Juventus.
