“Sampdoria represents a lot to me after we had a great season last year. It means a lot to me, I am very happy to have remained in this family, because right now it does feel like a family,” Torreira told the official club YouTube Channel.

“It was tough for me to reach Serie A after two campaigns in Serie B, as there are many different characteristics, but I settled in very well.

“The city, teammates, staff and physios gave me a wonderful welcome. I am happy that my agents were able to reach an agreement with Sampdoria, because it was what we all wanted, ultimately, and what was best for me.

“In the last few months there has been a lot of talk, but the truth is I always wanted to stay and can’t wait to begin the new season.”
