Reports had put Pippo Inzaghi as the favourite for the position, but after Milan blocked the approach, the promoted side turned to the 59-year-old former Palermo man.
A statement on their official website read: “Sassuolo Calcio can announce that it has entrusted first team coaching duties to Alberto Malesani.
“Mr. Malesani will direct the team’s training this afternoon.
“The official presentation will take place on Thursday January 30.”
