Sampdoria have officially sold Mikkel Damsgaard to Brentford in a deal believed to be worth circa €15m.

The 22-year-old Denmark international was purchased from Nordsjaelland in September 2020 for €6.75m and made 49 competitive appearances in the Samp jersey, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

He impressed for his country playing at EURO 2020 last summer, but his career was then derailed by a serious injury.

Knee surgery did not resolve the problem, until he was diagnosed with an ‘aggressive form of arthritis’ that required specialist treatment.

Damsgaard was out of action from October 2021 to April 2022, making a few cameo appearances towards the end of the season.

“Mikkel is capable of creating and scoring goals and he has the ability to run with the ball past players,” Brentford coach Thomas Frank told the club website.

“That is a great asset to have in the squad. He will create chances for us and is fantastic at getting out of tight areas with the ball, we will benefit from that.”

  1. Did he have a horrific season last year? After the euros he was linked to every big club for 30 mil plus, amazing either every paper just made that up or he’s declined that for half that money he’s gone to a team under mid table!
