After passing his medical, Josip Brekalo has now officially signed for Fiorentina on a permanent transfer from VfL Wolfsburg.

This is a return to Serie A for the Croatia international, who had already played on loan at Torino last season with seven goals and two assists in 33 Serie A games.

His contract with Wolfsburg was due to expire in June, so he was available for a cut-price deal, reportedly nothing other than a cut of a future sell-on fee.

Brekalo is a regular for Croatia and already has 33 senior caps under his belt, in which he scored four goals.

The player has chosen the Number 77 jersey and confirmed yesterday to reporters that he usually wears the 7, so wanted to pick a number representing his desire to β€˜double’ his previous performances.

The 24-year-old held out for Fiorentina, despite also receiving interest from the likes of Napoli, Udinese, Monza and Spanish side Getafe.
