Verona have officially confirmed Gigi Del Neri as the successor to Andrea Mandorlini.

The long-serving Coach was sacked yesterday after a disastrous run which has seen the Butei without a Serie A win since the start of the season.

It was initially thought that Eugenio Corini would take his place, but surprise reports emerged this morning that Del Neri had been approached.

The tactician had been unemployed since a brief spell at Genoa in the 2012-13 season, but has now been officially handed the reins at Bentegodi.

Hellas Verona announces that it has entrusted the technical guidance of the first team to Luigi Del Neri,” the club confirmed in a short statement.

"The Coach from Aquileia will be joined by Francesco Conti [assistant coach], Maurizio D'Angelo [technical assistant] and Luca Alimonta [athletic preparation].

"The press conference to present the new Coach and his staff is scheduled for today at 13:30 [12.30 GMT]."

Del Neri’s first game in charge will be the weekend visit of Empoli, with the former Juventus Coach looking to pick up a first three points of the season.
