As expected, Fiorentina have officially extended their contract with Giacomo Bonaventura until June 2024, with an option for a further season.

The midfielder’s current deal had been due to expire on June 30, meaning he would’ve been a free agent.

There had been some interest from MLS clubs, but Bonaventura has committed his future to the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

A statement confirms the contract runs to June 2024, with an option to extend until 2025 provided certain conditions have been met.

The 33-year-old was a product of the Atalanta youth academy and spent six years at Milan before moving on to Fiorentina as a free agent in September 2020.

Bonaventura made 91 competitive appearances for the Tuscans, contributing 10 goals and 13 assists.

So far this season, he has found the net three times with one assist in 21 games between Serie A, the Coppa Italia and Conference League.

Bonaventura also has 14 senior Italy caps to his name.
