Genoa have officially signed German international Nadiem Amiri from Bayer Leverkusen, while Empoli take Valerio Verre on loan with option to buy from Sampdoria.

Amiri has been snapped up on loan with an obligation to buy that is activated if certain conditions are met.

Kicker reported the deal is worth €9m if Genoa avoid relegation into Serie B.

Born in Germany from Afghan parents, Amiri was requested specifically by new Genoa coach Alexander Blessin.

“I’ve known this player for a long time, he has great character and hard work that enabled him to wear the jersey of Germany,” said Genoa general manager Johannes Spors.

“He will reinforce our midfield with his quality.”

The 25-year-old played 20 competitive matches this season for Bayer Leverkusen, contributing two goals and two assists in the trequartista role behind the strikers.

Amiri has five senior caps for Germany under his belt.

Across the city, Genoa’s rivals Sampdoria have officially loaned midfielder Verre to Empoli with an option to buy at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old scored one goal in 12 competitive appearances for Samp this season.
