Udinese boss Massimo Oddo has urged Milan to ‘protect’ Gennaro Gattuso and has a solution to reducing VAR waiting times.
Gattuso – Oddo’s former Milan teammate – oversaw a 3-0 defeat to Verona on Sunday, while much of the criticism facing video assistant referees in Serie A relates to the length of time it takes for a decision to be made.
“Who’s more ready for a big team out of De Paul, Barak and Jankto? None of them,” the Coach told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“Who’s more ready for a big team out of De Paul, Barak and Jankto? None of them,” the Coach told Radio Anch’io Sport.
“They’re very good, but they need more experience with Udinese. Maybe in three months, five months or a year will they be ready for a big team, but everyone must improve. It’ll take some time.
“Maxi Lopez? He’s a great professional, who pulls the group together. I have seven forwards that are all good enough.
“It’s normal that I sometimes pick others, but he remains a crucial player thanks to his characteristics.
“Milan? Every situation is different and problems aren’t always the same. I won’t let myself judge the work of a friend like Gattuso. He’s found himself on a complex path, but I hope Milan will protect him.
“VAR? I’m very much in favour of it. Football is a sport that everyone can make mistakes in because its leading lights are human.
“The VAR intervenes in decisive moments and it’s absolutely right. It’s a form of assistance that reduces mistakes and its decisions must be accepted, even if it takes a bit of time.
“The technology will also used in the World Cup because football’s an incredible business, and decisive choices must be assisted because there are important economic interests at hand.
“The tests have already been carried out. The referees are a team: why don’t we give direct responsibility to whoever manages the VAR on the sidelines in order to shorten the waiting times?”
