Argentine forward Denis spent a relatively unproductive year with the Zebrette last season, struggling to find space in the first team.

Despite preparing to return to the Stadio Friuli this weekend as an Orobici forward second only in the scoring charts to Antonio Di Natale, Denis insists that he is not looking for retribution.

“For me, this game is not about revenge. I had a great time in Udine, but I had Di Natale and [Alexis] Sanchez ahead of me and it was difficult to play.

“Could me and Toto play together?” considered the 30-year-old. “With the formation [Coach Francesco] Guidolin uses it would be difficult. I feel better playing as a lone striker at Atalanta.”

Denis ended a run of seven games without a goal in spectacular fashion last weekend, with a hat-trick against Roma in Bergamo.

“I was calm, the goals always come when you least expect it. And [Stefano] Colantuono has helped me a lot. One always hopes to score, but for us the important thing is League salvation.

“When we reach that goal, I can think of other things. For me it would be important to contribute to Atalanta’s history.

“[Filippo] Inzaghi’s record [of 24 goals for Atalanta in 1996-97]? He is a great, I don’t think I can beat him. But if I can, I will offer an asado [typical Argentine dish] to everyone.

“I’m not thinking beyond this season. I will finish the campaign well, then we’ll see. Certainly in Bergamo I am happy.”
